Bonaire - Paradise in the Caribbean
Bonaire - Paradise in the Caribbean

Once a visitor, always a friend.

Bonaire, a small Caribbean island just off the coast of Venezuela and part of the Netherlands, is renowned as ‘Diver’s Paradise.’ I have travelled often to Bonaire and every time I come here, there is a sense of relaxation that takes hold of me. Many people come here to explore its vibrant coral reefs, crystal-clear waters, and diverse marine life. However, Bonaire offers much more than exceptional diving experiences. Even if you’re not into diving, Bonaire is a great destination for exploring and unwinding.

Despite covering only 288 square kilometers (111 square miles), Bonaire boasts diverse landscapes. The pink salt flats in the south create a striking contrast against the turquoise Caribbean Sea, while the protected Washington Slagbaai National Park in the north features rugged terrain, ideal for hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife spotting.

Kralendijk

The city of Kralendijk, the island’s capital, serves as the main hub. Its colorful, Dutch-Caribbean architecture and relaxed atmosphere offer a welcoming experience. Visitors can explore local markets, enjoy traditional Caribbean cuisine, and take a scenic stroll along the picturesque waterfront.

The best time to visit Bonaire is during the dry season, which ranges from December to April, when the weather is warm and the skies are clear, perfect for outdoor activities. Travellers should consider booking accommodations early during this peak period. For a quieter experience, the off-peak months still offer great weather and fewer crowds, making it ideal for relaxation and exploration. Summers are quite warm and humid, though you might want to avoid those months.
